Skin Cancer Doctor


In addition to his undergraduate degrees, Dr Phare has also undertaken extensive training in Skin Cancer Medicine, both through Healthcert and the University of Queensland.

Dr Phare obtained his first skin cancer qualification in 2008, gaining further training through the following years then in 2013 completing a Master of Medicine Skin Cancer Degree through the University of Queensland.

For 14 years Dr Phare combined General Practice and Skin Cancer work until 2023 when Dr Phare transitioned to focussing entirely on Skin Cancer Diagnosis and Management, working full time in Skin Cancer Medicine.

Undergraduate Training

Dr Phare trained at the University of Wales College of Cardiff and University of Wales College of Medicine in Cardiff, Wales.

During his medical training he also completed an additional Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Biochemistry.

While training in medicine Dr Phare undertook a medical student elective in Tennant Creek in the NT, gaining a glimpse into the healthcare needs of the local population including some aspects of the interaction of Western medicine and Aboriginal cultures.

Vocational Training

After completing his under-graduate studies in Medicine and Surgery Dr Phare undertook hospital training positions in :

  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Psychiatry
  • Emergency Medicine
These roles were split between Devon in the UK and Brisbane, Australia giving a wide range of cultural and learning experiences.

Dr Phare undertook specialist training as a General Practitioner / Primary Healthcare Practitioner in his native area of South Devon, working in both single handed and multi-partner GP practices.

While studying for Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in the England, Dr Phare was very busy in the local out of hours GP co-operative, providing urgent care and medical advice to a population of over 100,000 people.

General practitioner

Dr Phare came to Traralgon in 2003, initially working at Breed Street Clinic then becoming one of the partners of that clinic.

Dr Phare worked as a full time GP at Breed Street Clinic from 2003 to 2014.

After training as a Skin Cancer Doctor, Dr Phare then decided to open his own clinic to increase his focus on Skin Cancer Medicine while continuing to provide GP services including 24 hour on call availabiity 365 days a year.

In response to circumstances beyond his control, in 2023 Dr Phare made the difficult decision to stop providing General Practice services to concentrate on Skin Cancer Medicine.
